Background and Biography:
Jon A. Sanford, M.Arch., is a Research Architect at the Center, and the Co-Director of the NIDRR-funded, Rehabilitation Engineering Center on Workplace Accommodations at Georgia Tech. Mr. Sanford holds a Masters of Architecture from the Georgia Tech. His major area of research is the impact of the physical environment on behavior and functioning of older adults, particularly as the environment is related to independence, safety and accessibility. He has conducted a number of studies related to improving independent functioning of older adults with disabilities and has recently completed a study to evaluate the efficacy of using teleconferencing technology to provide follow-up ADL training and environmental evaluation to new users of mobility devices in their own their homes. Mr. Sanford is a member of the Gerontological Society of America; the American Society on Aging and its Network on Environments, Services, and Technologies; and the Environmental Design Research Association.
