Background and Biography:
Ronald A. Schuchard, Ph.D., is the Director of the Rehabilitation Research and Development Center. He is also an Associate Professor at Emory University School of Medicine in the Department of Neurology with joint appointments in the Departments of Ophthalmology and Rehabilitation Medicine. He has an adjunct associate professor appointment in the Department of Psychology, University of Georgia. Dr. Schuchard holds a M.S. in Physics from DePaul University and a Ph.D. in Medical Physics from the University of Chicago. He completed a vision research fellowship at the Wilmer Institute of the Johns Hopkins University. His major areas of research are in modeling low vision (especially retinal function and neural plasticity) and functional vision for rehabilitation. The development of functional vision outcome measures including eyetracking point of gaze measures to evaluate rehabilitation interventions (including retinal prosthetics efficacy) is the focus of his research at this time. Dr. Schuchard serves on many national boards including the editorial boards of the Journal of Rehabilitation Research and Development and the IEEE Transactions of Neural Systems and Rehabilitation Engineering.
